The book
Think twice if you want to be famous. Sometimes fame is not a very good thing, especially if you have a fan as obsessed as Annie Wilkes.
Misery was a psychological horror novel written by Stephen King, the writer who also brought The Mist, The Shining and other horror fiction stories to life. Misery is the story of Paul Sheldon, the author of best-selling romance novels centered on a heroine called Misery Chastain. The story begins with Paul staying in Hotel Boulderado in Colorado to finish his new novel Fast Cars, a work that is completely different from the Misery series. However, he meets an unfortunate accident as he was caught in a snowstorm while driving. He loses control of his car, drives off the road, and falls down to a steep hill, losing consciousness.
Paul has nothing to worry about, though. He is rescued by a former nurse called Annie Wilkes, who happens to be his "number one fan". He finds himself unable to move any part of his body from his waist down. As a result, Annie takes care of him in her house. She also gives him a drug called Novril to alleviate his pain.
This is also around the time that Misery's Child, the final Misery book, hits the shelves. Annie enthusiastically grabs a copy and reads the book. But when she finds out that Misery dies at the end of the book, she was outraged, leaves Paul all by himself for almost three days, and forces him to burn his only copy of the Fast Cars manuscript. She also forces him to write another Misery novel that will revive the heroine or he'll never make it out alive. He is already starting to doubt this nurse taking care of him, and tries to escape. With his helplessness, will he be able to escape from Annie? Will he finish the new Misery novel? What will be the things that he will discover along the way?
